Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

When I think of all the things I've learned in the last year, it kills me that I wasted so much time, chasing down stupid things. . .

Recently, I was talking with a marketing colleague (and a very successful one, I might add), picking his brain for ideas on what I could and should do to improve my work schedule while increasing my income ratio (ROI).

I discovered that many of the things I didn't take seriously (such as safelists and traffic exchanges) COULD be very successful (even at the free level), IF I learned to use them properly. Hmmm.

So, no, I haven't been spending the last two months on vacation in Europe, though I have a shot at that next summer-- NOW. Because I followed my friend's advice and learned how to use these marketing tools properly. And it's made a huge difference in my success rate. :-)

I've also begun to truly understand the importance of helping my downline -- those brave souls who look to me for guidance. Putting these two things together, I've been focusing on helping them (those who have already made a firm commitment to me and the programs I promote). And it's really easy to do--

But the main thing I learned recently is that, the way I started in marketing was completely bass-ackwards. Sure, it's great to get a website-- ONCE you have an income to make it worthwhile! And, yes, it's wonderful to start a newsletter to generate leads-- AFTER you've learned enough to talk about. And, yes by the way, my newsletter should be returning soon. Because, though I did it the hard way, I'd like to think my newsletter really does contribute to the internet marketing public good.

But, when I started out, I had no business doing either. And I don't even blame the program I started with (PIPs), because I was looking for a website!!-- my fault. But, if I had gotten GOOD advice, that would have been completely different. At least, I WOULD advise others differently.

So that's how I help my downline-- by pointing them toward those things that really help someone with little money and time. And, by gum, it's working.--mo
